5 wellness trends to watch out for in 2018

It’s a new year and time to make it a good one. Of course, stuff happens that makes life a little more difficult than we might like, but we still make a choice everyday to be positive or negative. One of the best ways to stay positive and healthy is to engage in some wellness activities. Here are 5 amazing wellness trends to watch out for this year:

1) Self-care is essential, not an indulgence…what does this mean? We are FINALLY realizing that some me-time is not a luxury, it is absolutely necessary for our sanity. In 2018, we will unapologetically clear space to take care of ourselves, and not in the stereotypical way of face masks and back massages, but of everyday healthy rituals that will keep our minds and bodies relaxed. So this year, expect to hear more real, conscious conversation and education about the importance of daily self-care and how everyone needs it make time for it. And it is about time!

2)Kombucha- bigger and craftier than ever before. We are all aware of the crazy Kombucha trends-it is now sold at many yoga and wellness centers all over LA and something people choose to drink over water. The numbers on kombucha growth are incredible-according to Square, sales have increased more than 12 times from three years ago, and one research firm says the category is already worth an annual $600 million. I am actually a big fan of this trend because the probiotics it contains are good for us, and what better way to get healthy than with a drink that actually tastes good? But whether people gravitate towards the fizzy drink for its taste or its gut healthy, Kombucha will be popular this year!

3)Collagen- It will make its way into every facet of our lives.People are finally starting to become more health -conscious and actually wonder what is in their food and where it comes from. Collagen is a one-ingredient protein powder that had gut-healing properties as well as skin-care and immunity boosting powers- people are increasingly putting it in their smoothie recipes! Collagen use is rising as people look for natural ways to take care of their health before it is too late- and what a fabulous way to do so.

4) Sleeping well is becoming a huge market of importance. As research continues to find that sleep deprivation leads to health problems such as weight gain, anxiety, and hormone imbalance, people have decided to make sleep a number one priority– but that does not always mean it is easy. “These days influencers are coming out and saying sleep is their secret weapon and their No. 1 priority,” says holistic psychiatrist Ellen Vora, M.D. “We’re learning that you actually can’t be a productivity machine without good sleep. As a culture, we’re also reaching a breaking point with poor sleep habits, recognizing that when we stay up late into the night scrolling Instagram or watching Netflix in bed, we feel pretty lousy the next day,” Vora added. So now,we have some new technology and methods to help us sleep-essential oils, diffusers, sound machines, meditations like Headspace. Let us all find what works for us and embrace this life-changing trend.

5)Femtech- a technology that helps women understand their health and bodies more than ever before, a new billion dollar company that is changing our world as we know it. We have fertility apps such as Kindara- cycle-tracking apps, apps for pregnant women that let them hear their baby’s heartbeats. We are making so much progress, and it is truly amazing.  I cannot wait to see what they are going to come up with in 2018 to even better help us women learn about our bodies. This has the potential to create a whole new level of self-care than ever before!

Oh my god- what an exciting year we have ahead of this. Commit to some of these wellness trends and many more; we deserve it. Lets really love, accept, and take care of ourselves this year!
