Summer Desserts

The hot weather in the summer time calls for something cold and sweet to cool us off. Just because we want something sweet does not mean we have to splurge on sugary food. There are many alternatives to unhealthy desserts that will taste just as good. It is important to use real ingredients instead of artificial colors and sweeteners. The most basic and simple dish I like to make in the summertime is a fruit salad. All you need is a variety of your favorite fruit, cut them to the size of your choice, and mix them together. To make it more interesting, you can put the cut fruit on sticks and make fruit kabobs! My daughter and her friends love this dish. Next, I want to tell you about homemade fruit pops, a great dessert to enjoy by the pool. They are completely natural and a great substitute for the sugary popsicles at the market. Choose any fruit that you like, strawberries for example, and thaw 2 cups of it. Add ¼ cup of apple juice, 2 tablespoons of honey, ½ juiced lemon, and 1 pinch of salt. Combine all the ingredients and place them in a blender. Once smooth, place the mixture in a pop mold and place them in the freezer for at least five hours. Once ready, this treat is amazing. Another recipe I love to make is Rosemary-Cranberry sorbet. I love rosemary because of its taste and how it helps with hair growth, so I like to use it a lot of my dishes. The ingredients that are needed are for this recipe are ½ sugar, 2 sprig rosemary, 1 can of cranberry sauce, 2 apples, and juice of 1 lemon. The first thing you need to do is boil sugar, rosemary and ½ cup of water. Next, puree the cranberry sauce, apples, lemon juice, and rosemary juice in a blender. Lastly, freeze the puree in a covered bowl for about an hour. I am so happy I have found this recipe to enjoy in the summer! The last treat that I want to share with you is Vanilla Yogurt Parfait. Scoop some vanilla yogurt into a bowl or Mason jar, then layer it with some berries. Make about 3 of these layers. At the end, drizzle some honey and fresh mint over it. This dessert can be eaten at any time of the day, and is super easy to make. I love knowing that I can enjoy dessert using healthy ingredients.
